Aya Matsuura joined by Mariya Takeuchi for her 10th anniversary album

TOKYO —

Singer Aya Matsuura, 25, will release an album on Dec 21 to mark the 10th anniversary of her professional singing debut.

Veteran singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi, 56, is collaborating with Matsuura on the album, titled “Aya Matsuura 10th anniversary best.” Takeuchi wrote a new song for the occasion, titled “Subject: Sayonara.”

Matsuura, who auditioned for the all-girl pop group Morning Musume in 2000, became a long-time member of Hello! Project – a Mickey Mouse Club-esque collective of young Japanese pop artists. She “graduated” from the group in March 2009. Like many Japanese pop idols, she has worked in a multitude of assignments ranging from solo work and collaborations with other idols, to hosting a radio talk show and acting.

Since 2006, Matsuura has suffered from mandibular joint disorder, a condition that often makes it painful for her to sing. She took a three-year hiatus from touring and has slowly started making a comeback.

She said the anniversary album is a special Christmas present to her fans.
